The FDA has not defined the term “natural” and has not established a regulatory definition for this term in cosmetic labeling, so we have established these guidelines in our efforts to remain transparent in our definition of "natural".
Legacy Toothpaste brands commonly contain ingredients that many health-conscious consumers are actively looking to avoid. These legacy toothpaste products often contain artificial flavors, artificial preservatives, artificial colors, artificial sweeteners, and other synthetic ingredients.
Instead of using a long list of artificial/synthetic ingredients, Davids uses ingredients that are Naturally Sourced and Naturally Derived.
NOTICE: Toothpaste is a regulated cosmetic product by the FDA, and allowable limits of lead are 10.0 parts per million and 3.0 parts per million for arsenic. Davids toothpaste has been shown to contain less than 0.5 parts per million of lead, which is 20x (2,000%) lower than the allowable limits, and 0.2 parts per million of arsenic, which is 15x (1500%) lower than the allowable limits. Davids toothpaste is one of the few toothpaste products certified by the Environmental Working Group (EWG) with a 1 rating for ingredient safety, which is the best rating possible. As part of the EWG certification process, Davids was evaluated for lead, arsenic, and other heavy metals. The reality is that both lead and arsenic naturally occur in many fruits, vegetables, and other food products, so the presence of micro traces of lead and arsenic is normal, and is only an issue when found in unsafe amounts. Because Davids toothpaste uses naturally sourced and naturally derived ingredients it is expected that micro trace amounts of lead and arsenic found in nature are also found in some Davids ingredients. Because Davids is 2000% below the allowable limit for what is considered safe for lead and 1500% below the allowable limit for what is considered safe for arsenic, we have full confidence in the safety of our products.

what makes Davids so good?
Davids is committed to using only safe ingredients to promote both personal & oral health. We have chosen to not include fluoride in our formulation, due to health concerns surrounding this ingredient. Every toothpaste manufacturer that includes fluoride is required to print the following warning label on their packaging:
"Keep out of reach of Children under 6 years of age. If more than used for brushing is accidentally swallowed, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center right away."
You wont find this warning label on Davids toothpaste, since our toothpaste is fluoride-free.
We eliminated the artificial ingredients that are found in most other toothpastes and found safe alternates. The result is a toothpaste that is naturally sweet (not too sweet), naturally flavored, and naturally preserved.
Sulfate based chemicals, most commonly Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), is a chemical commonly found in toothpaste used to produce the foaming. Unfortunately, sulfates are harsh to the environment and your body. Many people experience mouth sores from using toothpaste with sulfates, because of the harshness of this chemical. We have substituted SLS with a more natural ingredient derived from coconut oil (Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate), which is sulfate-free. Davids produces a milder foaming action, and does not burn your mouth like SLS.
Davids does not do animal testing in the development of our products. We believe all life should be valued and respected. Davids Toothpaste is a member of Leaping Bunny (www.leapingbunny.org), which is a coalition of companies dedicated to the promotion of humane animal treatment.

not JUST made in the USA... USA origin too (big difference). While talking to suppliers, we discovered that many of the big toothpaste companies buy ingredients that come from overseas (mostly China, Malaysia & India), and mix them in their US factory and stamp "Made in USA" on their package. At Davids, we take a much different approach... we do our best to use only premium ingredients that are farmed, mined, and processed in the USA.... 98% of our ingredients are USA Origin, supporting the sustainability of the USA economy and American jobs. When you use the highest grade premium USA ingredients, the difference is noticeable!
