main takeaways
- October is both National Dental Hygiene and Orthodontic Health Month, honoring all the work dental hygienists do and raising awareness about the benefits of orthodontic care, respectively.
- Schedule a visit to your dental hygienist to support healthy teeth and your oral care professional.
- At Davids, we’re celebrating dental hygiene and orthodontics this month by brushing our teeth twice a day, flossing, and staying hydrated.
From pumpkin spice, fat bears, and bright leaves to Halloween to Football season, October has a lot to look forward to. But at Davids, it’s two other celebrations making us smile most: National Dental Hygiene Month and Orthodontic Health Month.
Sponsored by the American Association of Orthodontists, the annual Orthodontic Health event highlights how properly aligned teeth and jaws improve overall oral health, bite function, and speech. Meanwhile, our Dental Hygiene observance recognizes the vital work of dental hygienists and emphasizes daily oral care habits.
We’re taking this special month to spread awareness and be proactive about our oral wellness, and we hope you’ll join us. Here’s how we’ll be celebrating at Davids.
we’re booking a visit to the dental hygienist

It’s Dental Hygiene Month, so show your teeth (and hygienist) some love by booking a visit. Consistent appointments help prevent tooth decay, gum disease, and other health issues.
Tip: Most people should see a dental hygienist every 6 months to keep their teeth and gums healthy. Those with braces or a history of periodontitis (a chronic inflammatory gum condition) should visit more.
we’re brushing 2x a day
Brushing your teeth twice each day is always important, not just during National Dental Hygiene Month. But with the many sticky sweets, hard candies, and popcorn (especially unpopped kernels) flowing in October, we’re paying extra special attention.
That means brushing our teeth well with a soft-bristled bamboo toothbrush and a premium toothpaste. We prefer those made with naturally sourced and derived ingredients, like our Hydroxi™ nano hydroxyapatite toothpaste that supports your enamel health and sensitive teeth.
Be sure to brush both morning and night for about 2 minutes per session. Your teeth and gums will thank you.
we’re choosing ‘safer’ sweets and treats
Sticky and hard treats like taffy, caramel, and gummies can break brackets or pull off wires, if you have braces. Even if you don’t, these treats can be tough. They cling to enamel. They feed bacterial growth. They can even pull out fillings and crowns.
As our way to celebrate National Dental Hygiene and Orthodontic Health Month at Davids, we’re choosing ‘safer’ sweets. Plain chocolate. Peanut butter cups. Powdery, melt-in-your-mouth candy. These sweets are less harsh on braces and dental work leading up to Halloween.
we’re flossing every day
Brushing your teeth only cleans about 60% of the tooth’s surface. Flossing reaches where your toothbrush can’t, clearing away trapped food particles and plaque in between your teeth. By flossing daily, you not only help remove plaque but also prevent tooth decay, protect your gum health, and prevent periodontal disease, which affects the gums and bone that support the teeth. It’s the perfect way to celebrate Orthodontic Health Month.
While any floss is better than none at all, we’ll be using Davids dental floss. As an expanding floss, its woven strands widen when they come into contact with moisture (saliva). This allows the floss to ‘hug’ the contours of the tooth and clean away plaque along the gumline.
It’s also infused with nano hydroxyapatite to help remineralize where your brush can’t reach.
we’re building an on-the-go oral care kit

Oral care kits aren’t just for travel. These kits provide quick access so you can maintain your dental health when you’re away from your main setup, whether you’re at work or school.
Celebrate Dental Hygiene Month by packing a full size kit in your bag or compact items like travel toothpaste, a toothbrush, and floss for an easier fit into your bag.
we’re tongue scraping
Looking to upgrade your oral care this Dental Hygiene Month? Introduce tongue scraping into your daily routine.
Tongue scraping uses a tool, such as a stainless steel tongue scraper, to remove layers of bacteria, food debris, and dead cells that build up in the tiny crevices of your tongue’s surface. This helps promote fresher breath, supports oral health, and may even help you experience food flavors more clearly.
we’re hydrating
Did you know that drinking water is one of the simplest and most effective ways to support your oral health? It helps wash away food and bacteria, neutralize acids in your mouth, and prevent dry mouth.
Drink water regularly throughout your day to stay fully hydrated. If you’re on the go, carrying a water bottle with you makes it easier to stay hydrated.
we’re promoting healthy habits
At Davids, we’ll be sharing oral health tips on our social media platforms to spread awareness about National Orthodontic Health Month and oral care. You can, too.
Share your own healthy habits with friends and followers using the hashtag #DentalHygieneMonth so everyone can join in.
